Novi Sad On The Danube

The Danube is the main street of Novi Sad around which the cores of Petrovaradin and Sremska Kamenica are grouped on the right Srem bank and Novi Sad of Bačka, on the left bank of the river. The city descended onto the river banks not only with its older streets and most representative buildings, but also with the entire city districts, walking areas, beaches, "čardas" i.e. fish restaurants and weekend settlements. The City beach "Štrand", weekend resort of Ribarsko Ostrvo and Kamenjar are traditional sites on the Danube for relaxation and leisure. The riparian Danube area accommodates important bird habitats some of which, such as the Special Nature Reservation Kovilj-Petrovaradin Marsh and Nature Park Begečka Jama are of international significance.
