Prosefest

October 6 - October 9

Prosefest is an international festival of prose writing traditionally held in Novi Sad. Founded in 2007, the festival’s clear mission is to return literature to its roots by fostering direct and personal encounters between authors and readers.

A Meeting of Writers and Readers

Throughout Prosefest, eminent domestic and international authors read from their works in public spaces and engage in open discussions with visitors. The festival places a strong emphasis on education, with writers visiting Novi Sad’s grammar schools and university faculties as part of the official programme. Through continuous dialogue with pupils and students, contemporary prose is brought closer to younger generations in an engaging and accessible manner. To date, the event has hosted over a hundred prominent literary figures from around the world and featured more than three hundred individual events, attracting tens of thousands of visitors.

The “Milovan Vidaković” Award

An essential segment of the festival is the presentation of the “Milovan Vidaković” International Literary Award. This prestigious accolade has previously been awarded to distinguished global authors and Nobel laureates, such as Mario Vargas Llosa, Orhan Pamuk, and Peter Handke, further confirming the festival’s influential standing on the region’s cultural map.
