The monastery church is dedicated to Translation of the relic of St. Nicholas (Prenos mošti Sv. Nikole) (May 22)
According to lore, the Đipša Monastery was founded by Despot Jovan Branković in the 15th century. This information is also stated in the book “Description of Serbian Fruška Gora Monasteries in 1753″ (”Opis srpskih fruškogorskih manastira 1753. god”) by Dimitrije Ruvarac. In written sources, Đipša is mentioned in a manuscript gospel from the 15th or early 16th century and an Ottoman document from the second half of the 16th century.
The monastery church was renovated several times, and it got its present appearance after a fundamental reconstruction, done in the middle of the 18th century, when the narthex and the two-storey bell tower were built, in which the chapel dedicated to the Shroud of the Virgin was located. The storeyed konak west of the church is from the same period. Above the southern entrance to the church is a fresco of St. Nicholas (Sv. Nikola).
During the 18th and 19th centuries, Đipša was mostly a metochion of Kuveždin, and in the second decade of the 20th century the monastery was abandoned. During Second World War, the Ustasha blew it up. Due to cracks that then formed and eventually deepened, the bell tower was demolished in the 1970s. The intensive renovation of the monastery began in the 1980s.
The 18th-century iconostasis, painted in the Baroque style by the master Teodor Stefanov Gologlavac, was damaged during Second World War. Only parts of it are preserved in the Museum of Church Art in Sremska Mitrovica. The contemporary iconostasis of the monastery church from the 20th century is the work of the iconography workshop “Minić”, and the carving was done in Romania. Wall painting is the work of Bojan Stanković from the first decade of the 21st century.
