Zmaj Children’s Games

June 1 - June 7

Tradition and Creativity for the Youngest

The Zmaj Children’s Games stand as the most significant festival of children’s creativity in South-East Europe and the oldest event of its kind on the continent. As a complex cultural celebration, the festival has been shaping the artistic sensibility of generations for decades, offering a platform where professional artists and young creators exchange creative ideas on equal terms.

Decentralisation and Accessibility of Cultural Content

Programme activities are decentralised and take place across numerous locations, encompassing the historic city centre, as well as surrounding settlements and cultural institutions. Approximately one hundred professional artists participate in the event, with thousands of children and young people from across the region expected to attend. In addition to the artistic programme, the festival brings together experts in pedagogy, psychology, and librarianship, further highlighting its educational and social importance.

Tradition and the Contemporary Spirit of the 69th Festival

This year’s 69th edition of the June Programmes is held under the recognisable slogan: “A Better World Could Emerge!”. The programme is designed as a blend of literary, dramatic, musical, and multimedia expression, with a particular focus on interactivity and active audience participation. Through the Zmaj Children’s Games, Novi Sad affirms children’s creativity, while special programme segments are organised to honour major jubilees of domestic and world literature.
