“Upad” Theatre Festival

The “Upad” Theatre Festival features a programme dedicated to contemporary theatre, creative experimentation, and the exploration of performing arts from the perspective of new generations. Established as part of the international project “Be SpectACTive!”, this platform brings together young authors and offers audiences an opportunity to engage more directly with theatre.

Significance and Mission of the Festival

The “Upad” Theatre Festival was launched by the Student Cultural Centre of Novi Sad in 2019 with the clear objective of bringing theatre art closer to young people. The festival concept is designed to give audiences an active role through the work of young selectors who curate the programme. In this way, the event encourages critical reflection on current social themes and breaks down traditional barriers between performers and spectators, enabling direct dialogue after every performance.

Contemporary Programme and Educational Model

The programme encompasses relevant theatrical productions from Serbia and the region, as well as various educational formats. Through mentoring, public calls, and workshops, the event actively involves young people in cultural production processes, representing a long-term investment in the domestic theatre scene. This model enables participants to acquire practical knowledge in festival management and project development, while opening up a space for audiences to explore new artistic forms.
