Recycling Marathon
A Race of Togetherness and Energy
The second Sunday of December in Novi Sad is traditionally reserved for a sporting event that celebrates perseverance and friendship. The Recycling Marathon, organised by the “Fruška gora” Athletics and Recreation Club, represents the final major race of the calendar year. This event is unique for its concept – the organisers “recycle” medals and T-shirts remaining from previous competitions, while runners symbolically recycle their energy and gather strength for the upcoming season.
Sporting Social at Sunčani Kej
Located on the banks of the Danube, Sunčani Kej becomes the gathering point for all those who do not prioritise the clock or the final result. The Recycling Marathon is designed as a group training session and a formal celebration of the host club’s birthday. Instead of chasing personal bests, the focus is on mutual support and fostering sportsmanship, regardless of the weather. As experienced runners often point out, there is no such thing as bad weather, only inadequate gear. For many participants, this event is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past competitive year in a relaxed atmosphere. The Recycling Marathon thus remains a recognisable symbol of the Novi Sad running community, bringing together professionals and hobbyists in a unique winter riverside setting, as they plan new sporting challenges together.
