New Fortress Theatre
The New Fortress Theatre is a site-specific theatre festival that brings a unique open-air stage experience every August. Having originated at the Smederevo Fortress and subsequently staged in the setting of Villa Stanković, it has finally found its permanent home in the courtyard of the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. This venue, where theatre, music, and fine arts have intersected for decades, transforms into an open-air stage at the end of summer.
A Place of Direct Artistic Encounters
As an outdoor event, the festival serves as a unique theatrical experiment that expands the boundaries of stage expression. It holds a prominent place in the region’s cultural life by nurturing contemporary drama through site-specific performances, fostering an intimate connection between the audience and the performers. By relocating to the Academy of Arts, this creative space has also become a setting for direct artistic encounters. All performances within the New Fortress Theatre festival begin at 20:30, with one show daily.
