Exhibition “Art in the Service of Faith: Splendour and Glory of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci”
The Gallery of Matica Srpska is organising the exhibition “Art in the Service of Faith: Splendour and Glory of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci”, marking three centuries since the establishment of this prominent institution and two centuries since the founding of Matica Srpska. The grand opening is scheduled for Friday, 5 June at 20:00, and the event will be enriched by a performance by the Choir of the Cathedral Church of St George from Novi Sad.
Historical Heritage and Visual Culture
The display showcases the complex development of Serbian ecclesiastical art of the modern era over its two-century history. Through iconostases, wall paintings, portraits, and prints, the exhibition “Art in the Service of Faith: Splendour and Glory of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci” illuminates the spiritual authority and cultural identity of the community. Visitors will have the opportunity to view carefully selected masterpieces from leading domestic, regional, and European museums and dioceses.
Expert Guided Tours and Accompanying Programmes
Alongside the art exhibits, the exhibition features diverse multimedia content, a short documentary film, and a special family guide tailored for the youngest visitors. Accompanying programmes for the public will take place on Fridays at 19:00, while expert curatorial guided tours are provided on weekends at 13:00 and 17:00. The exhibition remains open to visitors until 27 September 2026.
