European Heritage Days at the Gallery of Matica Srpska
The European Heritage Days at the Gallery of Matica Srpska will take place from 15 to 20 September 2026, offering visitors a rich and inspiring cultural programme. Organised in cooperation with the French Institute in Serbia and Musical Youth of Novi Sad, the event gives audiences a unique opportunity to enjoy recordings of iconic opera and ballet performances from the renowned stages of the Palais Garnier and Opéra Bastille in a distinctive setting.
Outstanding Opera and Ballet Performances
As part of the Summer Opera initiative, screenings of Paris National Opera performances will be held in the Gallery’s garden from 15 to 18 September at 20:00. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy Puccini’s operas La Bohème and Madama Butterfly, the ballet Cinderella choreographed by Rudolf Nureyev, as well as a contemporary ballet programme featuring Who Cares?, Boléro, and The Seasons’ Canon.
Lectures, Workshops, and Exhibition Programme
At the heart of the event is a series of educational activities and expert-led talks. On Friday, 18 September at 19:00, a lecture titled “Borderlands in the Metropolitanate of Karlovci” will take place. For younger visitors, interactive drama workshops titled “Expanding the Frame” have been prepared for 19 September at 11:00 and 16:00. Later that evening, at 19:00, the official opening of the exhibition “The Gift Collection of Mara Ognjanović” will be held.
Over the weekend, on 19 and 20 September at 13:00 and 17:00, expert guided tours will be organised through the exhibition “Art in the Service of Faith: The Splendour and Glory of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci”. The European Heritage Days at the Gallery of Matica Srpska offer all visitors a unique chance to explore the richness of our shared national and European cultural heritage.
