Austrian Film Festival

Contemporary Cinematography in Novi Sad
The sixth edition of the Austrian Film Festival will take place in mid-April, presenting the local audience with a selection of the latest cinematography from Austria. Under the slogan “More than… / Mehr als …”, this year’s festival is held in Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš, featuring seven carefully selected titles. The programme selection is curated by journalist and writer Ana Vučković Denčić, who focused on films exploring themes of identity, social norms, and personal freedoms.
Key Premieres
Novi Sad audiences will have the opportunity to watch a total of seven feature films and documentaries at the Cineplexx Promenada cinema, five of which will be Serbian premieres. The Austrian Film Festival will be officially opened by Olga Kosanović’s film “Far from being lipizzans” (Daleko od lipicanera), which explores deep questions of belonging through the lens of a struggle with bureaucracy. The repertoire also includes award-winning works such as the documentary “Glory to the Queen”, “All Going South”, and the intriguing portrait “Elfriede Jelinek – Language Unleashed”. All films are screened in their original language with Serbian subtitles.
Meet the Authors and Special Offers
The programme is further enriched by guest appearances from prominent female directors. Olga Kosanović and Tatia Skhirtladze will be present at the cinema to engage in Q&A sessions with the audience following their screenings, sharing insights into their creative processes. This jubilee programme, marking the 25th anniversary of the Austrian Cultural Forum’s work in Serbia, offers a special benefit for Novi Sad residents – free admission to all screenings scheduled for Saturday.
