European capital of culture

Novi Sad in the year of culture

This year, in the year 2022, Novi Sad is officially the European Capital of Culture. The European Union awarded this important title to the “Serbian Athens” in 2016. Under the slogan “For New Bridges”, the programme is divided into four programme units, while each unit is divided into two more thematic arches.

In the year of culture, a total of 1,500 events will be held, at which more than 4,000 participants from Serbia, the region and the world will present themselves.

In addition to these specially organized programmes, in the year of culture, numerous other events that contribute to the diversity of cultural and artistic contents in Novi Sad will await for us.

Permanent attractions, which form the core of Novi Sad’s tourism, such as the Petrovaradin Fortress, the old city core, numerous museums and galleries, diverse offers at Fruška Gora, traditional “salaš” farmsteads or “čarda” taverns, make only some of examples of the tourist content that is ideal for each of the 52 weekends during the year.

A special charm of Fruška Gora and the entire Novi Sad area is its fertile soil, which is perfect for grapevine growing which is the basis for preparation of various wine varieties. Due to its historical significance and quality, you can get to know the whole region through the tastes of wines made in six different wine trails.

Take the opportunity of the year of culture and feel the spirit of Novi Sad through its youth and joy, tradition and hospitality, but also leisure and light city rhythm. We also award the most beautiful spring and summer photographs.
