More than 8,000 visitors participated in the “Open Days” this year

On the occasion of the Day of the City, the Tourism Organization of the City of Novi Sad initiated and, together with Novi Sad cultural institutions and other business entities, organized “Open Days” on February 3 and 4, in order to enable citizens of Novi Sad, as well as tourists, to be part of this celebration through a series of free programs. According to preliminary reports, the event initiated by TONS was visited by more than 8,000 fellow citizens, but also guests from other cities (Subotica, Kikinda, Belgrade, Zemun, Obrenovac, Valjevo…). Also, to 4,000 children, students of the first grades of primary schools in Novi Sad, we have traditionally donated picture books about Novi Sad, dubbed “The City with the Heart of a Dove”.

Our intention, as the initiator of the action, to enable citizens to participate in the celebration of the Day of the City and thus get to know it better, was achieved. Our wish was to motivate citizens to become regular “consumers” of cultural events, as well as to become its ambassadors through numerous cultural and tourism programs and spread the knowledge gained on this occasion, as well as to pique the interest of visiting Novi Sad in all those with whom they come into contact. In addition, our goal was to, at the time of year when all celebrations have ended and there are no significant events, attract tourists from the surrounding area and present our city as a desirable tourist destination with an abundant offer that they can enjoy throughout the year.

We are very pleased that our initiative on the occasion of the Day of the City has been recognized and that, from year to year, the number of applications for free programs is increasing, as well as the institutions that join the TONS initiative, i.e. the “Open Days” campaign. This all tells us that the initiative has the potential to continue to unfold and  grow for years to come.

Here’s how the “Open Days” went

By hiring guides from the Association of Guides of Novi Sad, TONS provided six free walking tours of the city and the Petrovaradin Fortress.
