The Tourism Organization of the City of Novi Sad, using the city’s rich heritage, introduced two specific tourist tours into everyday life, which are based on the heritage of the Jewish community of Novi Sad and on that which, through work, creative, pedagogical, charitable, political, revolutionary and etc., Novi Sad women of different faiths and nations woven into the history of our city.
The cooperation between the Jewish Municipality of Novi Sad and the Tourism Organization of the City of Novi Sad contributed to introducing activities that affirm Jewish heritage, history and tradition in the public space of the city in a way that brings it closer to foreign visitors and residents. The publication “Novi Sad – A View of the Jewish Cultural Heritage” (Jewish Municipality of Novi Sad 2012) and opening of the Synagogue with expert interpretation and promotional tours “Novi Sad from the Jewish perspective” are part of that plan, which is fully accepted today. In 1999, Novi Sad was among the first European cities to have a “Tourist map – Novi Sad from a female perspective”, which presented the history of the city through the biographies of a number of women who left their mark on its cultural, political and economic history. Based on the map, the book of the Tourism Organization of the City of Novi Sad was created, from which the tours originated. Free tourist tours were organized successively during the summer of 2017 and 2018. Today, it is possible to book them on request, and they are carried out by licensed tourist guides. Thus, the Tourism Organization of the City of Novi Sad proved to be the creator and initiator of specific programs that were then taken over by the tourism industry.
