They live – student lives revealed through context-based art practices
May 1, 2022 - May 15, 2022
Novi Sad is a university city with about 50,000 students coming not only from Novi Sad but from all over Serbia and the region, and, through the system of educational and scientific exchanges, from the European countries, which makes Novi Sad one of the largest scientific and educational centres in Central Europe.
The year of the title of European Capital of Culture is a good opportunity to forget the language of numbers and university grades and to take a look at the neglected topic of everyday campus-related student life. The research and “They Live – student lives revealed through context-based art practices” exhibition will try to convey the daily life of students in our city, from the establishment of the first student dormitory in 1954 to the present day.
The exhibition is founded on the idea that students engage in the joint creation of contemporary art through participatory projects and archival materials. A young artist with no previous international experience, together with a young curator, will attend a summer school of participatory art practices at the Institute for Art in Context in Berlin. Then, in our city and directly collaborating with the students, they will develop their art projects based on collected photographic material and videos about their lives. The result will be an exhibition of works of art created during the residency, in the Hall of the Rectorate of the University of Novi Sad.
Venue: Creative District
