Pomorišac – Vasa Pomorišac

The artistic journey of Vasa Pomorišac unfolded from his native Modoš, through Zagreb, Munich, and Belgrade, all the way to London and Paris. His recognition in the world of art is attested by numerous commissions and works executed in various media, diverse themes, and for different purposes – from portraits, religious, and mythological compositions in oil, to historical and folk motifs in fresco painting, stained glass, and book illustrations, to designs for banknotes. His work received a positive reception from critics and the professional community, colleagues, and society in general. His collaboration with Matica srpska, a prominent cultural institution, was also notable. He was the last, eleventh scholarship holder of Matica Srpska, and it is not a coincidence that the celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Gallery of Matica Srpska, which began with an exhibition of works by the first scholarship holder Uroš Predić, concludes with an exhibition of works by Vasa Pomorišac.

In the desire to highlight the name and creativity of the painter Vasa Pomorišac once again and to emphasize his contribution to Serbian art, the Gallery of Matica Srpska, in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, is organizing an exhibition that will present over a hundred of his artistic works.

The interested public will be able to visit the exhibition “Pomorišac – Vasa Pomorišac” until February 29, 2024, and every weekend at 1:00 PM, guided tours through the exhibition will be available for visitors.
