December in Novi Sad begins with a special moment — when the first holiday lights are switched on in Liberty Square (Trg slobode) and Zimzolend opens its doors. This year, the event runs from December 5th to January 7th, bringing more than a month of festive magic right into the city’s heart.
Zimzolend is exactly how Novi Sad loves it to be — intimate, charming, family-friendly, and filled with the scents, lights, and music that remind us of the most beautiful winter days.
A Small City of Light
As soon as you step onto the square, you are greeted by an entire small world of wooden houses and holiday decorations. The lights gently refract off the façades of the old city core, and the background music creates the impression of having stepped into a New Year’s fairy tale.
The aromas of mulled wine, sweets, chestnuts, and winter dishes will waft through the air throughout the entire event, ensuring everyone can find their favourite festive treat.
Workshops, Performances, and Moments to Remember
The program features daily performances, children’s workshops, mini-concerts, and plays. While the youngest guests enjoy the entertaining content, adults can relax with a warm drink and a pleasant conversation in one of the illuminated houses.
This is also one of the most beautiful spots for holiday photos — the square in its full glory, the colourful houses, and the large light installations that become a trademark of every winter season.

The opening of Zimzolend marks the start of a period when the city breathes slower, warmer, and more solemnly. For more than a month, until January 7th, Novi Sad will live in a festive mood, radiating its distinctive winter charm.
