Life outside the metropolis, as a choice and an endeavour, in an old house on the fertile land of Srem, along with a vineyard and all the blessings that can be born and produced from it, is not new. That is how the founding of Patkov vinograd Winery (Vinarija Patkov vinograd) that took place in Krčedin, in 2017 as a joint endeavour of the citizens of Belgrade Mirjana Đurđević and Branko Mlađenović, can be understood as an increasing need to continue life in the natural environment, but also to appease the creative energy that lovingly creates the mystery of wine.
The unusualness of, in this case, intertwining the winemaking and literary work of the winery owner would remain a peculiarity within the wine world if the reality of wine production, like a new story, would not be uniquely constructed every year. On the stretch of Patka and the same named stream, the writers, owners of the Patkov vinograd Winery, have planted Grašac, and every year, a different wine is made and bottled in terms of quality and potential of the genus, whose character, smell and taste become a dedication to many literary heroes and heroines of the world literature.
So far, thanks to the climatic and other specifics of each production year, the following wines have been created: Князь Мышкин (Knez Miškin) 2016, Majstor i Margarita 2017, Geppetto 2018, Švabica Reserve 2019, and from the Pinot Noir that was bought in 2017, the Četiri Jahača Apokalipse wine was made. These are fresh, honest wines that differ in the name they bear, as well as the years in which they were created.
In addition to having all the desirable features of the Fruška Gora terroir, these wines also have the stamp of an uncompromising struggle for quality that winery owners always strive for. The same is confirmed by the awards, among which we can single out the most important ones won within the last few years: International Wine Fair BeoWine Beograd, 2018 (silver for Князь Мышкин 2016); BeoWine 2019 (gold for Majstor i Margarita 2017); The Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival (BIWC) 2019 (bronze for Majstor i Margarita 2017).
At the festival organized by the Vino.rs portal, the best wines and wineries of Serbia in 2017 were selected. Patkov vinograd Winery was declared the best in the category “The best winery in Serbia you have probably never heard of.” Many wine lovers awaited a bottle from annual editions of Князь Мышкин from this winery to enjoy the wine characters of literary heroes and antiheroes.
Wine lovers, who come to the house in Krčedin to buy wine, are welcome in all four seasons. However, those who want the usual tourist programme – wine tasting and purchase must first announce themselves, and then count on the fact that the wine tasting room in the yard is under a huge walnut tree. Visits are most effective during the summer heat when drinking Grašac in several literary characters, eating snacks for separating wine (cheese, olives, salmon pate …), the walnut shade and imagination, originality and relaxation of the winery owner give an inspiring view of life.
Announcement is mandatory.
