Mačkov Podrum Winery

There are rarely wine lovers who, while making a pilgrimage on Fruška Gora, have not been to Mačkov podrum Winery (Vinarija Mačkov podrum) or have not heard of Sava Jojić, the charismatic owner of the winery and the representative of the fifth generation of winemakers in his family. The Jojić family has been persistently dedicated to wine production, so that the sixth generation of winemakers, led by Đurđica Jojić, continues to live a love for viticulture and winemaking.

Having decided to renew the vineyards in 2004 and with the first harvest of Merlot in 2006, the Mačkov podrum Winery has positioned itself on the map of wine tours in the Fruška Gora area as a place that is traditionally visited. The Jojić family based their wine production on carefully cultivated vineyards on the Budakovac, Ružaš, Memijevo, Carina, and Belengir stretches and on the following grapes assortment[1]: Rhine Riesling, Chardonnay, Fragrant Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Portuguiser.

They offer the following wines: Mačkov podrum Chardonnay, Mačkov podrum Incognito (Rhine Riesling), Mačkov podrum Sauvignon Blanc, Mačkov podrum Traminac Mirisni, Mačkov podrum Frajla (Pinot Noir and Portuguiser), Mačkov podrum Portuguiser, Mačkov podrum Merlot, Mačkov podrum Camerlot, Mačkov podrum Pinot Noir, and Mačkov podrum Diskrecija. These are wines that fully represent the advantages of the Fruška Gora terroir, a tradition that is interpreted in a balanced and modern way, above all the effort in nurturing the vineyards and the love with which the wine is created.

For the family Jojić, wine is life and inspiration, but also a kind of test that can measure the sensibility and sense of measure of every person, because who knows how to enjoy wine without intemperance, knows how to enjoy life as well.

Recognitions for wine quality were not missing, and we will list only the most important ones won in the last few years: International Wine Fair BeoWine 2016 (gold for Mačkov podrum Diskrecija 2015, silver for Mačkov podrum Chardonnay 2015 and Mačkov podrum Frajla 2015); Portugieser du Monde 2016 (silver for Young Wine Portuguiser 2015); Portugieser du Monde 2017 (gold for Mačkov podrum Portuguiser 2016 and Mačkov podrum Frajla 2016); The Balkans International Wine Competition and Festival (BIWC) 2021 (gold for Mačkov podrum Sauvignon Blanc 2020 and Mačkov podrum Chardonnay 2020); Novi Sad Fair 2021 (gold for Mačkov podrum Sauvignon Blanc 2020 and Mačkov podrum Chardonnay 2020). To this series of awards should be added the fact that Mačkov podrum Portuguiser 2019 wine was in this year’s June issue of the magazine “Wine & Spirit” among the recommended labels in the category “Best by”. A curious thing is that the wine Mačkov podrum Portuguiser is served in the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA).

Mačkov podrum Winery is a frequent choice of wine lovers and tourist groups, and the offer is clearly structured. According to the previous agreement, those interested can choose a small (3 types of wine) or a large (5 types of wine) wine tasting, and it is also possible to taste by a glass. All this is accompanied by sommelier tips and snacks to separate the wine. Lunch or dinner, if cooked food is in question, is prepared for at least five people and must be arranged in advance.

For organized groups, an announcement is required two to three days in advance. A wine tasting room with sixty seats is available to visitors, and in the summer part of the year, the winery can accommodate up to one hundred and twenty people. The Mačkov podrum Winery is among the few at Fruška Gora that has a defined tourist programme intended for everyone who wants to participate in the grape picking.

“Experience the harvest at Fruška Gora at Mačkov podrum” is an offer that includes: welcoming of guests, ride in tractors to the vineyard, grape picking, Srem breakfast and Srem feast with “tamburica” players when the best picker is chosen. The event called “Dani mladog portugizera” (“Days of the Young Portuguiser”) was established by Sava Jojić in a way that the culture of young wine was promoted for more than a decade, first in Novi Sad, and now in Irig. It can be said that the Mačkov podrum Winery, thanks to the owners Sava and Đurđica Jojić, is a synonym for good wines, new ideas and original hospitality in tourism.

Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 08:00 a.m. to 06:00 p.m. Announcement is mandatory for organised groups.
