Acumincum Winery

Stari Slankamen is an important place marked by extremely significant layers of history that belong to many peoples who decided to stay right there at the confluence of the Tisza and the Danube. The Acumincum Fortress (Gradina), the remains of which can still be seen on the hill above the settlement, sublimates parts of the historical period through archaeological findings starting from the Bronze Age, the Scordisci and Romans to the medieval fortress and the Ottoman rule that ended with the Battle of Slankamen in 1691 and the victory of the Christian army, which is marked by a monument on a nearby hill.

That is why the name of the winery – Acumincum Winery (Vinarija Acumincum), owned by the Spasić family, located right next to the Catholic Church in the village, suggests an exciting connection with the rich heritage. When a visitor steps into a creatively landscaped garden, and then into a modern tasting room, he/she does not expect that the next steps through the space of the winery will be those that lead him/her directly to the history textbook.

Every further thought will be overshadowed by the impression that you are in the space of the Turkish bath from 1566, built on the source of healing mineral water. Reconstruction and adaptation of the space that has maintained the original parts of the hammam was masterfully done by the architect Vladimir Lojanica, for which he was awarded at the Salon of Architecture 2015.

The wine story of the Acumincum Winery began when the Shiraz grapevine was planted in the existing vineyard not far from the settlement, on the Počenta stretch. The following wines are offered: Nomad Shiraz, Bonvivan Cabernet Sauvignon, Nomad Pinot Noir and Rose Shiraz. These are the wines of high values of preserved variety, freshness and balanced taste that are kept exclusively in stainless steel tanks.

They reflect the experiences gained in different parts of the world where the Spasić family lived and the love for wines that the owner, Milan Spasić, originally from Negotinska Krajina, inherited from birth. The return to nature, respecting the past, believing in the future and enjoying the present is a set of values that determine the rhythm of life and work of the people gathered around the Acumincum Winery.

The awards were not missed. At the Fruška Gora Wine Fair in Inđija in 2013, Nomad Shiraz (2013) won the title of the winner, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Vojvodina awarded the Plaque for the quality of services in the hospitality and tourism industry in 2018 to Acumincum Winery.

Visitors are welcome with prior notice. Both the tasting room and the garden are spaces that can accommodate up to 50 people. The programme for tourists includes a tour of the winery and hammam with a story about the history and tradition of the place, wine tasting and buying. Upon prior arrangement, it is possible to organize a snack, lunch and a fish cauldron in the garden. Acumincum Winery is a frequent choice of organizers of lectures, business events and specialized gatherings with fewer participants, all because of the substantial offer where the focus is on wine, exclusive ambience and cosmopolitan openness of the owners.
