Stari Slankamen is the settlement in the Danube region known for its many attractions and good wines. The gastronomic and catering offer of the place is diverse, and the frequent choice of visitors are Restoran Kej (Quay Resturant), and the nearby wine house Macura Produkt Wine Production (Proizvodnja vina Macura Produkt), all owned by the Macura family.
Nikola Macura brought knowledge about vineyards and wines from his native Kistanje in his genes, and here, on the God-given land for vineyards, with the help of his father Rajko and his wife Milica, who brought Srem’s heartiness and meticulousness, he started a gastronomic and wine business that is now continued by Nikolina and Miloš Macura.
Having come to Srem, the Macuras planted vineyards of the following grape varieties near Stari Slankamen[1]: Chardonnay, Muscat Hamburg, Vranac and a very rare variety of Muscat Rose. The wines on offer include: Macura Chardonnay, Macura Rose and Macura Vranac. These are quality wines strongly coloured with Fruška Gora terroir, made in the traditional way with the minimal use of modern oenological means.
The goal they wish to achieve is wine decanting, namely to enable wine run off. The existing quality of Macura family wines has been recognized domestically. At the Rivica Days 2021, Macura Chardonnay (2020) and Macura Rose (2020) were awarded a silver and Macura Vranac (2019) a gold prize.
Macuras are hardworking people who are motivated by work, honesty, family and pride in their own origins. This will be felt at every step by the guests who come to the Macura Produkt Wine Production wine house located near the Restoran Kej and the Dr. Radivoje Gnjatić Special Hospital. The winery building was purposely built as a place where you can enjoy wine and gastronomy.
The tasting room, which can accommodate up to twenty people, is a neat, well-equipped and tastefully designed place. The programme for visitors, and by prior arrangement may include: a story about the winery, presentation and wine tasting with snacks to separate the wines (pork and beef ham and cheese), or lunch (roast lamb, fish specialties and dishes to order) and finally buying wine.
Nikola Macura is a great host, a connoisseur of many gastronomy secrets, especially those related to fish soups and fish specialties, and he often demonstrated that knowledge at fish cauldron festivals with the famous Đoka Varenika. He continues this tradition even today as a well-known judge at competitions in fish soup cooking. His knowledge of wine, gastronomy and the secret of good mood help to make the time spent in the wine house of the Macura family pleasant and cheerful, and the guests satisfied to the extent that they wish to come again.
