Šukac Cellar

Šukac Cellar (Podrum Šukac), owned by the Savić family in Sremska Kamenica, was founded in 1854. Today, the sixth generation of this Sremska Kamenica family continues the tradition of winemaking. The assortment of grapes [1] on which they base their wine production consists of: Grašac Beli, Sauvignon White, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Frankovka and Muscat Hamburg. The wines of the house, Merlot Reserve Šukac, Merlot Šukac, Rose Šukac, Grašac Beli Šukac and Sauvignon Blanc Šukac have a recognizable character and strength of Fruška Gora terroir, but also a specific note added by love for wine and commitment of the winemaker Aleksandar Savić to put the uncompromising quality always at the first place. White, and in particular rose wine is the pride of the Šukac Cellar.

At the just-completed Grand Appraisement of Wines of Serbia in 2021, the wines of this wine house won the following awards: in the category “White still wines from local non-aromatic varieties” (gold for Italian Riesling Šukac 2020); in the category “White still wines from international non-aromatic varieties” (gold for Sauvignon Blanc Šukac 2020); in the category “Red still wines from international non-aromatic varieties (gold for Merlot Šukac barique 2017 and silver for Merlot Šukac 2017); in the category “Rose still wines” (bronze for Rose Šukac 2020).

The power of local heritage is nurtured here not only through knowledge about vineyards and wines, but also through visual identity which, thanks to the print on bottled wine labels, in fact a pattern taken from a decorative wall paint roller, reminds of the colours of Vojvodina houses from some the past times. Although they inherit the long-term knowledge of Fruška Gora winemakers, the contemporary owners of the Šukac Cellar are a young family that is growing simultaneously with the development of the wine tourism offer, which is currently being created and realized.

The tasting room is in the final phase, which, with a prior notice, will be able to accommodate up to 50 people. According to the previous agreement, it will be possible to choose several service packages that include wine tasting with appropriate snacks, wine purchase and a story about the tradition of the Fruška Gora wine growing area. Wine tasting and purchase is possible for individuals with the announcement. The wine of the Šukac Cellar is traditionally bought in bulk by the local population, who know what a good wine is, as well as the owners of the nearby Sremac “čarda” (fish tavern), famous for its good fish bites, which go well with the wine from the Šukac Cellar.
