For decades, Novi Sad has nurtured tennis as one of its leading sports, preserving the memory of the tennis greats such as the famous Monika Seleš (Monica Seles). From hanging out with a coffee next to the court to intensive preparations for international tournaments, tennis is more than just a recreation – it is a way of life and a tangle of tradition, youthful spirit and urban authenticity. Here, tennis is popular among all generations, not only as a sport but also as an effective tool for maintaining physical and mental health, developing competitive spirit, creative thinking and tactics. A carefully matched mixture of rhythm, competitive challenge and social interaction makes many Novi Sad residents return to the court again after the first recreational step.

Tennis courts are almost ubiquitous in the city – Novi Sad Fair complex, Novo Naselje, Alibegovac – and recreationists only need book an appointment, bring a racket and enjoy themselves. Tennis courts and tennis schools are also available in smaller neighbourhoods, outside large sports centres.

Tennis Clubs and Academies

Among the most important tennis clubs and academies in Novi Sad, the following can be singled out: Vojvodina Tennis Club (founded in 1924 and still bearing the epithet of one of the pillars of Serbian tennis), Elite Tennis Academy (the first Serbian tennis academy, opened in 2009), Petar Mišić Tennis Club (specialising in baby tennis, team building and fitness for adults) and Ječmenica Tennis Club (city tennis school for beginners owned by former tennis player Tatjana Ječmenica). Also, among other academies and clubs, the following stand out: Sajmište Tennis Club, Internacional Tennis Club, Meridiana Tennis Club, Index Tennis Club, AS Tennis Club and Sportland Tennis Club.
