Statistical results for the first six months of this year show that more than 115,000 tourists stayed in Novi Sad, which generated close to 278,000 overnight stays. According to the data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS), compared to the January-June 2023 period, the number of arrivals increased by 4.4 percent, while the number of overnight stays increased by 1.1 percent.
Out of the total number of nights, foreign tourists alone are responsible for close to 200,000 overnight stays. Among them, the most numerous are the tourists from countries in the region (Croatia, BiH, Slovenia, Romania, Montenegro, North Macedonia). Following them are the tourists from the Russian Federation, Germany, China and Turkey.
When it comes to June, RZS data shows that 53,497 overnight stays were realized, which is an increase of 9 percent compared to June last year, while May 2024 is still the month with the highest number of overnight stays (63,993).
In the first six months of 2024, 3,700 tourists from 70 countries visited the TONS info centers, and most of them do not hide their satisfaction with the service, information and material they receive. It is interesting to mention that during June we had visits from guests from Oman, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Thailand, Peru, Chile, Colombia, while among the most numerous tourists visiting our info centers are tourists from Russia, Germany, Turkey, the USA, Spain, the United Kingdom and France.
Based on the information of the Port Governance Agency, 176 passenger ships docked at the passenger dock in Novi Sad in the first half of 2024, and 24,097 passengers disembarked. Compared to the first half of last year, this represents 9.32% more docking and 16.68% more passengers. Most ships docked in June (68) when the most passengers disembarked (9,382). This is followed by May, with 63 docks and 8,599 passengers.
What awaits us in the coming period?
The first weekend in August will be marked by the Novi Sad Night Bazaar – one of the city’s favorite events (on Friday at the Fish Market), while Saturday will be reserved for Fruška Gora. During the day, you can take a walk with PSD “Poštar” as part of their traditional event “Meet the Holy Fruška Gora on foot”, and in the evening you can embark on an adventure called “Night Challenge” on Fruška Gora, and experience a very different walk in the forest in the light of headlamps.
By the end of August, every Thursday, you can expect the event “Summer at Gallery Square”, whose program is marked by art and sports, i.e. the current Olympic Games. For the youngest, there is the Novi Sad BIG Children’s Summer – until the end of August in several locations. People can also find refreshments in theaters and watch some of the current films this summer in the Arena event. You can also watch movies on Friday and Saturday, August 9th and 10th in the open air, next to the Rainbow Bridge as part of the “Riverside Cinema” event. As the event is organized by “Cinema City” and the American Corner, the audience will be able to watch cult American films (the program is free, and the films are subtitled in English without translation into Serbian).
In the last three days of August, we expect the Street Musicians Festival – Gradić Fest, when the Lower Town of the Petrovaradin Fortress will become a center of music, film, art and entertainment.
