SUMMARY:Love Festival
DESCRIPTION:“Novi Sad – the capital of love” is the main topic of the Love Festival that is being organised to celebrate the following holidays: St. Valentine’s Day\, St. Tryphon and Women’s Day. On the plateau in front of the “Promenada” shopping centre\, the central installation is the “Flower Wall” – a wall of natural flowers with inscriptions “love” in different languages. SUMMARY:Nobility in Serbian Visual Culture of the 18th Century
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition Nobility in Serbian Visual Culture of the 18thCentury came about as the result of the doctoral dissertation and years of research by curator of the Gallery of Matica Srpska. The audience will be introduced to the life of the nobility gathered under the patronage of the Metropolitanate of Karlovci during the 18th century through several thematic sections: As part of the representative public\, Blue blood and virtue: Types of nobility\, Education as a privilege\, Patrons and benefactors\, Family gallery: Marriage strategies of the nobility\, Nobility and endowment. Through over 80 works of art\, items\, and archival materials\, the exhibition examines the phenomenon of nobility from various perspectives\, including the acquisition of noble status\, adaptation of an individual’s personal identity to the demands of the representative public through portrait commissions\, contributions to the Church and endowment activities\, patronage of arts and culture\, the construction of luxurious mansions and castles\, and the selection of burial sites. \nDuring the exhibition\, a rich accompanying program will be organized\, featuring lectures by experts in modern social and cultural history on Fridays at 7:00 PM\, as well as guided tours by the author and curators on weekends at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. SUMMARY:Messier Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Messier Marathon is held every year\, at the turn of winter into spring on Fruška Gora. It is the most famous and popular astronomy marathon in the world. The goal of the contestants is to detect as many as 110 celestial objects from the Catalogue of Nebulae and Star Clusters of the French astronomer Charles Messier (1730 – 1817) in one night. These are the most interesting and beautiful celestial objects (Pleiades\, Orion Nebula\, Crab Nebula\, Sombrero Galaxy\, etc.). These are also the most beautiful objects of the deep sky and many are known from photos even to the general public not engaged in astronomy. DESCRIPTION:Petrovaradin has a historical tradition of celebrating carnival gatherings and processions\, leading to the idea of reviving the Petrovaradin Carnival. The central event of the carnival is the “Great Carnival Procession\,” which will move through the streets of the Lower Town of Petrovaradin Fortress: Štrosmajerova Street\, Vladimira Nazora Street\, Beogradska Street\, Lisinskog Street\, and Prote Mihaldžića Street. The procession\, in which a large number of carnival groups from the country and the region participate\, starts at 11:00 AM in front of the Church of St. George\, and it concludes in front of the main stage on Prote Mihaldžića Street. DESCRIPTION:The exhibition “Sport in Art. The Art of Sport” includes over 40 artworks and items created in the period between 1858 and 2018. The exhibition will feature selected pieces from the collection of the Gallery of Matica Srpska\, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Republic of Srpska\, the Museum of Yugoslavia\, the “Sava Šumanović” Art Gallery in Šid\, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade\, the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts\, and the Heritage House in Belgrade. The selected works are signed by artists Sava Šumanović\, Ivan Radović\, Petar Dobrović\, Ivan Tabaković\, Steva Todorović\, Petar Omčikus\, Dušan Todorović\, Bojan Bem\, Uroš Đurić\, and Tomislav Peternek\, as well as Henry Moore\, Andy Warhol\, Cy Twombly\, Michelangelo Pistoletto\, Gottfried Helnwein\, and James Rosenquist. DESCRIPTION:SurvajvZveri is a program that promotes physical activity among the youngest through a series of races organized in major cities across Serbia. The organizers found the motivation for such an event in the great interest children have shown in the obstacle courses from the popular TV show “Survivor”. The obstacle course in Novi Sad consists of three routes with 12 obstacles where (aspiring) young athletes attempt to achieve the best possible results in precision\, coordination\, speed\, solving puzzles\, climbing\, as well as other challenges that make this type of competition interesting for children of different ages. DESCRIPTION:The exhibition\, which offers an authentic and intimate insight into the creative spaces of artists\, is a result of the collaboration between the Gallery of Matica srpska and the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute. Through carefully selected photographs\, visitors will have the chance to step into the world of artists’ studios\, places where art is born on a daily basis\, where inspiration and work routine coexist in a visually intense environment. By observing the photographs on display\, the public will enter the artist’s world in a discreet\, yet powerful way. Rooms of various dimensions and ambiences are shown – from humble\, improvised workshops to bright studios full of colors\, paintings\, and personal belongings. The photographs also reveal cultural differences\, as well as the universality of the artist’s calling – dedication\, discovery\, and constant experimentation. Ninety photographs from the studios of Spanish artists will be shown alongside the selection of photographs which represent seven Serbian painters who are important for the collection of the Gallery of Matica Srpska. SUMMARY:"Zlatá Brána" Children’s Folklore Festival
DESCRIPTION:“Zlatá Brána” Children’s Folklore Festival is the festival of the Slovak national minority living in Vojvodina. The Festival gathers around 1\,300 children (from pre-school to the age of 15) from the entire Vojvodina and guest ensembles from Slovakia and Croatia. The Festival is held in the yard of the Elementary School “Ljudovit Štur” in Kisač where they set an amphitheatre\, the festival castle. The role of the “Zlatá Brána” Children’s Folklore Festival is primarily in creating the conditions for musical and dancing expression of children who become faithful mediators of messages from the close and distant past of the Slovaks from the so-called Lower Earth by cherishing the elements of the Slovak national culture. DESCRIPTION:EXIT is an award-winning summer music festival that takes place at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad\, Serbia\, with more than 1000 artists who play at over 40 stages and festival zones. It was officially proclaimed “Best Major European Festival” at the EU Festival Awards 2013 and 2017. EXIT has also won the “Best Overseas Festival” award at the UK Festival Awards in 2007\, as well as “Best Summer Music Festival in Europe” title for 2016 by the travel portal “European Best Destinations” awarded in cooperation with the European Commission. In March 2018 Regional Cooperation Council awarded EXIT Festival as Champion of Regional Cooperation for 2017. \nThe 20th anniversary of EXIT will be celebrated according to the original plans\, from 8th to 11th July at the Petrovaradin Fortress. SUMMARY:Exhibition “Paintings Are My Life”
DESCRIPTION:The Pavle Beljanski Memorial Collection commemorates sixty years since the passing of its donor\, diplomat\, and collector Pavle Beljanski (Veliko Gradište\, 19 June 1892 – Belgrade\, 14 July 1965) with the exhibition Paintings Are My Life. With a keen eye for genuine artistic merit\, Pavle Beljanski assembled an anthology collection of 20th-century Yugoslav fine art\, which he generously gifted to the Serbian people in 1957. In addition to works of art\, the legacy also preserves valuable documentary material\, offering new perspectives on the life and work of the donor. Spanning the period between the public opening of the Memorial Collection in 1961 and Pavle Beljanski’s passing in 1965\, the exhibition features artworks\, archival footage\, the museum’s first guestbook\, a selection of newspaper articles\, and photographs. On the one hand\, these materials disclose Beljanski’s reflections on his collection and\, on the other\, the deep respect his contemporaries held for him. The painting Bačka by Milan Konjović holds a prominent place in the exhibition. Moved by the news of Pavle Beljanski’s passing\, the artist completed the work in just three days and donated it to the Memorial Collection with the inscription: Slava P. Beljanskom 17 / VII 65 (To the memory of P. Beljanski\, 17 / VII 65). SUMMARY:“Vladimir Francišković” memorial tournament in beach tennis played with head
DESCRIPTION:Tennis played with head is the game designed in Novi Sad more than 30 years ago. It was created at a famous Novi Sad beach Štrand. At that time it was known as futsal tennis and it had somewhat different rules compared to the rules that are applied today. Over the years the game has undergone certain modifications and within the last 14 years the rules of the game have become more precisely defined. The first tournament was held at Štrand in 1984 as the “City Championship in Futsal Tennis” played on sand. In 1987 the tournament changed its name to “City Championship in Beach Tennis Played with Head” because the key segment of the game\, namely the point making\, changed in the meantime. It was decided that the final point is awarded only if the stroke was made with head and thus the current name of the game. In 1998 the tournament got the name “Vladimir Francišković” Memorial Tournament after tragically deceased player who had been the champion in this game for five times before that. We should certainly mention that futsal tennis was played by a famous Vujadin Boškov long before the tournament was established. We can call him the father of this sport because he was among the first who came up with the concept of that game.
